In the beginning there is always darkness. Writers do this so they have to explain as little as possible.
The title of this blog, The October Horse, comes from a chariot race that would take place in ancient Rome on the Ides of October. After the race, the right-hand horse of the winning team was sacrificed to the Roman gods, before two mobs, one each from the Subura and the via Sacra, fought for the horse's head.
Everyone likes to see a winner go down. They cheer it till their voices are hoarse. And in the end, like at the beginning, there is darkness.
